Frigid weather portends snowstorm for Connecticut

January 29, 2021 By Brad Field 2 Comments

Connecticut is now in the depths of winter, according to meteorologist Brad Field. The area has been plunged into a deep freeze Jan. 29-31, serving as a harbinger of a major snowstorm expected to strike the region Feb. 1-2 Field told his audience in his weekly podcast with co-host Dan Lovallo.

Wind chills could drop below zero over the weekend, as a portion of the polar vortex breaks off into Connecticut. Meanwhile, a snowstorm is expected to strike the state and region Monday into Tuesday. How much snow? Will the morning and afternoon commutes be impacted? Field runs down the gamut on these issues.

In his crystal ball segment, Field also takes a long range look into February and March weather as well.

Cold rain on horizon

March 27, 2020 By Brad Field Leave a Comment

Saturday, March 28, will be the better of the two weekend days, according to meteorologist Brad Field in his weekly podcast with co-host Dan Lovallo. A cold rain is expected to settle in for Sunday, March 29. The weather, extending into the last week of March and the first week of April will also be unsettled, with a one-and-10 chance we could even get a major snowstorm, according to Field.

In the podcast, Field peaks into what the early portion of April will look like, and it might be a good idea to have an umbrella and coat nearby. Field and Lovallo also look back at the April 1, 1997 snowstorm, which struck Connecticut.

More storms, Arctic cold

February 10, 2020 By Brad Field Leave a Comment

It looks as if our week of February 10 will be predominated by continued nuisance storms followed by a short blast of Arctic cold. So says meteorologist Brad Field. In his weekly podcast with co-host Dan Lovallo, Field outlines the timetable for the storms.

The storm late Wednesday into Thursday could be an interesting one and when it is finished here comes that Arctic cold blast. It could get downright cold in the Connecticut region as Field details.

Meanwhile, Field explains why the date of February 22 could bring about some dramatic changes in Connecticut’s weather. By the way, Field also details the snow amounts for the region and how it compares to previous winters.

Saturday the pick but wait

October 25, 2019 By Brad Field Leave a Comment

Saturday, Oct. 26 is the pick of the weekend, before making way for a rainy Sunday, according to meteorologist Brad Field. But then Field says the weather will turn mild again.

But what about Halloween’s forecast? In his podcast with co-host Dan Lovallo, the award-winning meteorologist takes a look at the last day of October. And as Brad states, it could be a significant date because the weather will take a dramatic turn when we change the page on the calendar.

Brad and Dan also explain what is about to bring about this change in our weather, after a delightful October, and why there are major temperature differences right now across the USA.

Temperatures moderate but…

February 1, 2019 By Dan Lovallo Leave a Comment

After bone-chilling, sub-freezing weather, our temperatures will moderate, says award-winning meteorologist Brad Field in his latest podcast with Dan Lovallo. But as Field delivers his forecast on Ground Hog Day, he says don’t let the milder temperatures fool you. The weather is going to change again with more snow and cold temperatures on the horizon.

Field also discusses the record-cold temperatures inflicted on the Midwest, why temperatures have been on an up-and-down swing in New England this winter and the chances of the so-called “Greenland block” returning, before winter wraps up. If the that block returns, Field explains what it could mean for the second-half of the winter.

Brad and Dan also give their Super Bowl predictions and talk about the coldest temperatures they have ever experienced.

Snow! Cold! And then comes February

January 25, 2019 By Brad Field 11 Comments

Brad Field says three computer models are indicating what could happen with our next storm. The award-winning meteorologist, in his latest podcast, thinks the storm could trend more toward snow, despite the predictions of a mix for January 29 into January 30. Also in the podcast, Field makes the following points:

  • Chicago could record low temperatures and some of that weather will head toward New England
  • The best – or depending on how you view it – the worst is still to come, when February arrives
  • And what about the different weather calendar used by meteorologists?

All that and more are discussed by Field and veteran Connecticut broadcaster Dan Lovallo.

Field: Weather turns, after boring stretch

January 11, 2019 By Brad Field 11 Comments

After another “boring” stretch of weather, extending well into next week, award-winning meteorologist Brad Field is predicting we could expect a couple of good, old-fashioned snowstorms later in January.

In his latest podcast, along with broadcaster Dan Lovallo, Field notes Connecticut will be spared another major snowstorm on Sunday, January 13. The other points made by Field in the podcast.

  • As he predicted 12 days ago, the weather for the New England Patriots AFC play-off game on Sunday against the LA Chargers in Foxboro, MA will be cold and clear.
  • The non-eventual weather will extend well into the week of Jan. 13
  • We could get hit with a major snowstorm on Jan. 22 or 23
  • Another whopper of a storm could take place the weekend of Jan. 26

In this latest podcast, Field details all of this, plus explains to Lovallo what meteorologists mean, when they talk about a “low pressure trough.”
