Mild weather prelude to cold rain

November 20, 2020 By Brad Field Leave a Comment

Look for some mild temperatures for Friday, Nov. 20 and Saturday, Nov. 21, before our weather gives way to a cold rain late Sunday, according to meteorologist Brad Field.

In their weekly podcast, Field and co-host Dan Lovallo explain what their podcast plans are for the upcoming Thanksgiving week. They also discuss another avenue they will pursue to get the word out on Brad’s long range winter forecast, which was released last month.

As for Connecticut’s recent up-and-down weather patterns – mild, followed by storms and sub-freezing temperatures – Field talks about how the entire world’s weather has an impact on our region’s weather climate.

Connecticut faces big weather change

November 12, 2020 By Brad Field Leave a Comment

Connecticut faces a big weather change, according to meteorologist Brad Field. After a stretch of 70-degree days, unusual for November, the state and region are about to be slapped with a big reality check, notes Field in his weekly podcast with co-host Dan Lovallo.

A cold front, sweeping across the state, has brought rain and a temperature dip. And Field says it is only going to get colder. There will be some moderating temperatures by Thanksgiving Day, but not before a stretch of weather that for a couple of days calls for daytime highs in the 30s, during the week of Nov. 15.

Field, who issued his long range winter forecast a couple of weeks ago, also revisits his winter prediction just a bit, after consulting with the latest resources on the subject. All this and more are in the podcast.

Great autumn weather for Connecticut

October 1, 2020 By Brad Field Leave a Comment

The first October weekend in Connecticut and the region sets up to be a terrific one, weather wise, according to meteorologist Brad Field. After some sporadic rain on Friday, Oct. 2, the weather turns delightful for Oct. 3 and 4. After the weekend concludes, however, Monday, Oct. 5 could lead to a rain event, according to Field, who details the forecast in his weekly podcast with co-host Dan Lovallo.

After reviewing the September weather numbers, Field details what October may look like in his “Crystal Ball” weather segment. For example, could we get an October surprise snowstorm as we did nine years ago?

The forces have to align correctly for an October surprise, Field notes, but that doesn’t stop him for examining AccuWeather’s long-range winter forecast. Field also announces when he will issue his popular winter forecast on the podcast.

First fall weekend in Connecticut delightful, but…

September 25, 2020 By Brad Field Leave a Comment

Look for delightful weather in Connecticut from Sep. 25 through Sep. 27 says Brad Field, because changes are on the horizon. The renowned meteorologist discusses what the early October weather will be like in his weekly podcast with co-host Dan Lovallo.

What about the tropics? Well, for the moment, Field notes that things are quiet but that he would not be surprised if there is a turnaround by next week’s podcast. What is for certain is that Connecticut is in dire need of rain, as drought conditions persist. (At the end of the show notes is a link to the drought monitor for Connecticut.)

There does seem to be some rain in the forecast for the week of Sep. 27, and Field times out the arrival of the precipitation. How much we get, however, depends on the development of a low pressure system.

Drought and cold for Connecticut

September 17, 2020 By Brad Field 1 Comment

Drought-like conditions persist in Connecticut, according to meteorologist Brad Field in his latest podcast with co-host Dan Lovallo. Field states there does not appear to be any significant rain in the offing. Adding to the atmosphere is a dramatic change in the weather, with cooler than normal temperatures about to infiltrate the region.

In the podcast, Field and Lovallo also discuss the active tropics, including the latest on Sally and what is on the horizon for Bermuda on Sep. 21. But as for rain in Connecticut, that is another story all together, Field stated.

Are the fires in the west, having an impact on Connecticut? Yes they are, according to Field. As for down the road, it appears that a La Nina is beginning to form and that could make for an interesting winter around New England, as the podcast co-hosts explain.

Good-bye summer, Connecticut

September 10, 2020 By Brad Field Leave a Comment

Connecticut’s weather is about to take a dramatic turn, according to meteorologist Brad Field. After a rainy, Sep. 10, the weather will turn delightful on Friday and Saturday, Field explained to co-host Dan Lovallo and his podcast audience. But after a transitional weather day on Sunday, Sep. 13, the weather will turn downright fall-like, a week before the autumn season officially arrives.

Sep. 10 also marks the mid-way point of the hurricane season. Field and Lovallo delve into that topic and what’s on the horizon. In fact, Sep. 21 could be interesting in the Florida Keys, according to Field.

The weather has been interesting, like everything else in 2020, as Field and Lovallo talk about the amazing weather change in Denver and the fires in the far West. What this all means for Connecticut’s weather is also a topic of discussion.
